  • Wireless Sensor Networks forRemote Monitoring

Overview

Wireless Sensors Systems are useful for the connectivity in the “Last Mile”, Single Point Measurement in Industrial Application without running wires. In fact the distances for wireless connectivity can be as short as 10 feet, when wired applications are not feasible due need for portability. Typically Multiple Sensor points can be connected via a Single Hub Node with range up to 4 miles. Wireless Sensor systems typically are low power systems that are battery or solar powered operated.  Power savings are achieved by powering down the sensors, and only powering on schedules.

SignalFire Wireless Network

Flow Meters Supported

The SignalFire Wireless Telemetry Systems support multiple Types of Flow Sensors since it supports standard industrial signal levels including Pulse, Analog, Modbus Nodes.  Flow meters supported include Magmeters, Turbine Flow Meters, Velocity and Depth Based Open Channel Flow Meters

Applications

The following applications benefit from the use of Wireless Sensor Nodes:

  • Open Channel or Filled Pipe Flow Measurement in Mine Drainage
  • Flow Measurement for Water Transfer Operations
  • Leak Detection

Many times these applications, it is very costly to run cables due to the distance, terrain, and requirement for portability.

Groundwater Monitoring

SatSCADA Real Time Groundwater Monitoring Systems with Wireless Sensor Networks

A SatSCADA Wireless Sensor Network can be deployed to monitor a cluster of Groundwater Observation Wells.

Monitoring Well clusters may be a 2 wells; or it could be a network of  50 to 100 of monitoring wells in a geographic area.  Monitoring wells may be located 20 feet away from each other; or could be located several miles away.

Monitoring In-Accessible or Unsafe Locations

Monitoring wells may be located in in-accessible or unsafe locations;  in marsh, by a river bank, or near a roadway.  Remote monitoring of observation well is desireable in these cases. Use of of Wireless Sensor Networks provide a cost effective method to monitor a group of wells without deploying a individual data logger / RTU at each site, or without running wires to site from a central site.

Wireless Sensor Nodes

The Wireless Sensor Network consists of a SatSCADA RTU with Wireless Gateway at a central location, and one Wireless Sensor Node at each remote observation well. Each Wireless Sensor Node can connect to the Analog (4-20ma, 1- 5VDC) or Modbus Sensors at individual observation wells.  Wireless Sensor Nodes are compact wireless battery powered systems, allowing cost effective rapid installation at each monitoring well, with wireless sensor attached to to the casing protector.

Observation Well Clusters

The Wireless Sensor nodes provide a cost effective  method to monitor group of wells without running wires to all the site from the central node. Wireless Sensor Nodes communicate to the central SatSCADA Gateway which provides a Satellite or Satellite/Cellular Link to SatSCADA Server and user access to the data.

Tank Level Monitoring

Wireless Satellite Based Remote Tank Level Monitoring

In Resource Industries such as Oil and Gas, & Mining there is a requirement to remotely monitor tank levels to schedule refills and transport; and to insure process safety.

Wireless satellite technology offered by SatSCADA offers the ability to remotely monitor tank levels in areas not covered by terrestrial means such as cellular, landlines, internet, or WAN networks.

Reporting on SCHEDULE, ALARM or DEMAND

SatSCADA Remote Tank Systems can be configured to report on a SCHEDULE (1,2,4,8,12,24, or 48 times a day), on ALARM, or on DEMAND. This flexibility allows the customer to configure SatSCADA to provide the most cost effective operation.

Standalone or Integration into SCADA, Inventory Systems

SatSCADA  provides a real time tank monitoring solution that can deployed as a standalone system or integrated into the client’s existing SCADA and inventory management systems.

Rapid Deployment

SatSCADA wireless satellite technology coupled with wireless sensor technology enable rapid cost effective deployments.

Remote Monitoring Solutions

The SatSCADA solution features Satellite (SAT100) , Sat/Cell (SAT120) connectivity, and Sat/Cell/WiFi (SAT130) connectivity for remote site connectivity and Wireless Sensors Technology (1 to 4 miles) for rapid deployment.

The SatSCADA platform is a cloud based system with web based interface that allows multiple simultaneous user access using computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones; and alarm notification via SMS, email, and voice callouts.

Although a single SatSCADA Hub can be support up with over 200 Wireless Sensor Nodes, the typical use may be from 1 to 10 Sensor Nodes. Wireless Sensor Connectivity allows flexible and rapid system deployment in industrial applications requiring mobility.

Wireless Battery Powered Sensor Nodes can be used to connect tank level sensors where wiring can be costly and difficult. This feature can be important in applications where portable tanks are utilized. Wireless sensors nodes eliminate field wiring that can be easily damaged.  SatSCADA Wireless Sensor Nodes support industry standard interfaces including analog (4-20 ma, 1-5VDC), digital (switches), and serial (RS232 and RS485 Modbus).  Low power Wireless Sensor nodes are battery powered with up to 2 years operation without battery replacement. For instruments that have longer warm-up times or for applications with higher update frequencies, wireless sensor nodes can be equipped with its integral solar power system.
